IMPORTANT:

 

You can only apply for an internship if you:

 

  1. Have no close relative serving in the ILO (mother, father, brother, sister).
  2. Have not already undertaken an internship at the ILO.
  3. Are enrolled in a Master’s or a Doctorate Programme, or have completed such a programme in the year preceding the application.
  4. Have a working (both oral and written) knowledge of English. This is mandatory.
     

 

 

Department

The social media intern position is located within the Department of Communication and Public Information (DCOMM).

The Social Media intern will work in the Strategic Communication (STRATCOM) unit of DCOMM to support the content creation for the ILO’s global social media accounts. 

Learning area

As an intern in DCOMM, you would be working on the following tasks:

  1. Support the Audience Engagement Officer in managing and maintaining ILO's presence on social media networks.
  2. Monitor the ILO social media accounts and the work of the organization through social media networks.
  3. Support the content creation for social media, mainly for TikTok and Instagram.
  4. Assist in drafting messages, designing social media materials and producing videos for social media. 
  5. Select and edit photos for social media posts. 
  6. Monitor trending issues in social media networks to bring ideas to the daily editorial meetings.
  7. Support on social listening, data results collection and analysis.  

 

Social media intern will be exposed to multiple world of work issues and gain a strong understanding of the ILO, its work and the world of work more broadly. At the same time they will have the opportunity to expand their digital communication and marketing skills as part of the STRATCOM unit and broader communication department.

Education

  • Communications, journalism and marketing, or related fields.
  • The candidate must be enrolled at least in a Master's degree programme or have completed such a programme no longer than 1 year ago.

Experience

Previous experience in social media management would be an asset.  

Languages

Excellent command of English and a good working knowledge of French or Spanish

Competencies

  • Excellent writing skills (preferred experience of writing for social media).
  • Experience managing social media platforms.
  • Creative mind and high interest in social media.
  • Ability to adapt messages to a culturally diverse audience.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as a member of the team and to meet strict deadlines.

Additional requirements

  • Knowledge of social media management tools (Hootsuite).
  • Knowledge of Canva or equivalent online design tool.
  • Ability to use image and video editing software such as PhotoShop, Premiere, InDesign or equivalent.

Selection process:

 

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster. 

 

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

 

Stipend/Financial compensations:

 

As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.

 

Qualified candidates from non- and under- represented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for round-trip airfare (economy class) in addition to the stipend.

 

Insurance:

 

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
