Technical cooperation appointments are not expected to lead to a career in the ILO and they do not carry any expectation of renewal or conversion to any other type of appointment in the Organization.  Extensions of technical cooperation contracts are subject to various elements including the following: availability of funds, continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.

Introduction

This ILO technical assistance form’s part an integral part of a larger Rural Access and Agriculture Marketing Project (RAAMP), Nigeria delivered by Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with 5 States Projects Implementation Unit. The drivers will support the team in mission and day to day affairs of the office including logistic supports. 


Reporting lines:  
The driver will report to the Chief Technical Advisor and under overall guidance of the Director of the ILO Country Office in Nigeria.  The drivers will receive administrative and financial guidance and advice from Admin and Finance Assistants, operation officer, Security officer, Chief Technical Advisor and ILO office Nigeria.  
Within the above context, the drivers will take responsibility of maintaining official cars, missions, daily travels with keeping logbook in line with work plans, ILO rules, regulations, policies and strategies, and in accordance with country programmes and administrative and financial procedures.   
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor and the general guidance of the Director of ILO Nigeria office, the drivers will perform the following tasks: 

Description of Duties

  • Drive office vehicles for official purposes. 
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.  
  • Collect and deliver mail, pouch, documents, and other items. 
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean. 
  • Keep records of use of vehicle, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, and other services. 
  • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident. 
  • Keep updated of the security situation, risk and inform office for alternatives. 
  • Perform miscellaneous office support functions such as messenger services and making photocopies.  
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and Director. 
     

Required qualifications

Education

Secondary education, valid driver’s license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs. 

Experience

Two years’ work experience as a driver with plus safe driving record. Preference will be given to the candidate who has experience of working with technical cooperation projects, UN organisations and Donors. 
 

Languages

Good knowledge of Nigerian local language and ability to communicate in English. 
 

Competencies

A high level of driving and vehicle repair and maintenance skills. Proven ability to keep accurate records of the use of vehicle. Proven ability to drive safely in local traffic conditions. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to undertake minor vehicle repair. Ability to lift heavy mailbags and boxes. Ability to work in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.
